The works also included replacing the existing check-in counters and installing an inline, checked baggage security screening and automated baggage-handling system. Also in Terminal 1, the security screening point in the departures lounge has been relocated and upgraded. The new $1.7 million facility is a significantly larger, lighter and brighter state-of-the-art security search area. In late October 2005, reconstruction of the cross-runway was completed. The ten-month, $6 million project has strengthened the runway so that it can accommodate regular opetrations by wide-bodied aircraft, including the new Airbus A380.
